Margaret Ekpo International Airport Bypass Road – Calabar
This project is a 6.5 Kilometer dual carriageway in Calabar, Nigeria, with an interchange and bridge on one end. This was a very unique and peculiar project because it traversed three kilometers of difficult swamp terrain. A geotechnical survey undertaken at the time depicted depths over 22 meters in certain areas that had to be contended with. In order to stabilize these areas we used layers of Geogrid materials which was further strengthened by hardcore material, and Geotextiles on the top layer to prevent water seepage, before applying the base course material, binder and finally applying two layers of Asphalt. The project was Awarded in 2011 and completed in 2014.
